Goals: A Reason to Make a List

I don't seem to have posted my New Year's Resolutions last year. I decided to make them all private and meaningful or something. I know I posted them in 2008. I feel the urge to post something this year, although you may not get the whole list. I do like a good list, and I will most likely have more resolutions than all of you combined (yes, all three of you) by the time I'm through. Here's just a smattering of my Resolutions:

1. Exercise, therefore not incurring my sister's mockery and potential wrath for requesting a heart rate monitor for Christmas and not using it. I totally have done this for three days in a row now. As I mentioned once way back when, I'm a firm believer in having unambiguous goals that you can actually reach. So instead of "exercise more" (which I suppose I've already achieved for the year), I shall say, run a ten minute mile. Shut up, stupid in shape people. Also there's more to the goal, but I'm not going to tell you now because you just got lippy. See how you vex me?

2. Spend more time with my teenagery niece and nephew. This will not be very hard, because "more" can be accomplished by one stint of quality time with either one outside of family events. Bad auntie. Also spend some more time with my little squirts. Little Brother is almost convinced it's safe to let me hold him now. I'm making some serious progress here.

3. Quit smoking. Oh... wait... hmm. Well. Check.

4. Find a new way to volunteer. Simmer down, there, Dizzle. I mean in ADDITION to Camp Fire, not instead of. Because my Camp Fire kids love me, as they should. And volunteering broadens your horizons and gives you new skills, as well as sharpening old ones. Also you can put them on your resume. I realized that last year.

5. Read the whole Book of Mormon from front to back at least once during the year. You know, instead of losing my place and starting over all the time. So I can be all religious-like and spiritual. I'm also thinking I shall read the whole Old Testament, since that's what we're studying in Sunday School. And um, just to clarify to my not Mormons, this is in addition to studying the scriptures by topic at church and stuff. I read 'em, I swear.

6. Learn more about the people I work with. Read books about mental illnesses. Learn more about addiction. Read some books on alcoholism. Read some books to understand other cultures. Phew, I need to be reading me some books. Let me know if you have recommendations.

What are your resolutions? Or are you resolution haters?

She's Every Woman

My roommate is soooo strong.

Really I don't think there is any room for argument.

That One Weekend I Went Outside

In this season of TV drought, it's difficult for a TV junkie like me with no job to fill the time. Yeah, there's the job search thing but sometimes I like to do fun things too.

This week is an especially sucky TV week. I'm not pointing any fingers, but I will say, PEOPLE, they would not cover certain events and people so much if you would stop watching it, clicking on it, and buying it. Make the madness stop! This is ridiculous. But I refuse to give it any blog time. Instead, I have been:

1. Hiking up a mountain, nearly fainting, and then stumbling back down. To the left, you see the beginnings of the path that inclined upwards and which I nearly tumbled down (K would have been the airbag in that crash). Turns out you are supposed to eat a breakfast with protein or something before you go on hikes on an 80-ish degree day with humidity. Who knew? At least at the top while I ate my almonds and chugged my water, I could enjoy the wonderful view of Mt. Rainier. For you Washingtonians, did you know there were hiking paths at Green River Community College? Like real ones, with switchbacks and mile posts and dirt and hills that make out-of-shape girls pass out? Totally does. I was very impressed.

Moving on, the next thing I did with my weekend was NOT spend time with Alice, the Mad Hatter, and their Tea Party crew. I sat around and felt sad because they weren't coming. Luckily, I didn't do that all weekend. I went on a wee road trip to visit one of my oldest friends Reeses and company (get it, Reeses, that was a subtle dig about your age).

We watched the fireworks Saturday night from the inner coast of the Peninsula of Washington. We could kinda see Tacoma, Seattle, and Edmonds all at one time. How cool is that? Couldn't really tell where all the Islands were, but they were there. It all looked like one land mass to me. Also, I could see a teeeeny tiny space needle. It was right next to Mt. Rainier, and so teeny I didn't notice it when I took my ten millionth Mt. Rainier picture, because apparently I love Mt. Rainier almost as much as Youtube. See it? No? Your inattention to detail is killing me. It's right....

There on the left... Duh. We saw lots of dead crabs when we walked the beach right by the house that day. Also a dead fish head. So of course Reeses had to sing the Fish Heads song. I know, you wish you were there, huh? We watched the veeeeery far away fireworks over Lake Union. They were teeny and cute and we could hear the booms from the distance, and we were the only ones on the beach.

I know I'm Hot, but...

Why is it that at least 2 out of 3 times a guy has hit on my lately (because, you know, I get that all the time), it has been when I have had virtually no makeup on, my hair is in a pony tail I did not look in the mirror to affix, and I feel ooky. It happened again today. I was coming out of the library thinking about how I hate mean people, and especially crabby women, and some guy was all "hey, beautiful." Really I'm surprised I didn't get some serious flirtage on my way out of the gym tonight, because if the No Makeup Ponytail look is hot , then the No Makeup Ponytail Bright Red Sweat look should be smoking. Can I hear a "How YOU doin?" boys and girls?

You Shouldn't Be at the Gym If...

1. You spend the whole time on the stair climber and tread mill talking on your phone and totally not out of breath, because your heart rate is, in fact, not raised.
2. You are wearing high heel boots while you do weights.
3. You are in full makeup and your hair is perfectly in place. Because you are obviously not there in search of the perfect body. At least not YOUR perfect body.
4. You leave the gym and proceed to smoke a cigarette before entering your car. Yeah, let's keep our body fat and cholesterol low so we can better enjoy the effects of the lung cancer or emphysema we've long been dreaming of (yes, I know, some of you are smokers... I'm a judger. I judge. That's what I do).
5. You are crabby and your mp3 player dies, leaving you with no other option but to pick apart every other gym patron. Yeah. Me. That's Right.

I'm Thirsty.

Because I just ran 2 miles. Also, I'm irritated. Because while I was running on the tread mill, they were airing Girls Next Door. And not just any Girls Next Door. The one that involves shooting naked pictures of several girls for pretty much the whole episode. I do not need to see that much boob and butt. I don't care if some of it is blurry. Girls with clothes on that look that good while I'm at the gym make me cranky. The naked ones should not be allowed. Also it's kind of inappropriate in that venue.
